Such a Romantic Idea

My neighbor has the postcard her grandfather used to propose to her grandmother. She had it blown up to poster size and framed it on her wall. Love the look and it's so romantic!

Look at the year stamped on this baby!

Hope ya'll are accomplishing all of your Holiday tasks....but
remember the reason for the season!

One more thing, we are offering a discount on our Early Bird Buying tickets for our Hillsboro, Oregon show til Dec 26th. Just click on the

Quick Bathroom Light Project

We know you have all seen these light fixtures...ugh they are so drab. They have got to be one of the ugliest bathroom fixtures ever made. They do, however, serve a purpose...tons of light and if you look closely at the pics below you will see an extra power outlet on the silver part of the bar. An important addition in older homes that have few outlets.  We just moved in to our house and haven't quite figured out what to do with this light yet. We knew we couldn't live with it for much longer so we decided to embelish it until we figure out a solution.

We didn't want to wander out in the cold so we needed to use something we had around the house. We went on a hunt for something shiny and a bit colorful. The bathroom is painted a pale turquoise so these glass pebbles we found in a junk drawer caught our eye. After playin' around with them a bit...this is what we came up with.

We glued them on and this is how they turned out!  LOVE it! Maybe we'll keep it this way. What do you think?

Don't forget our next show is in Hillsboro, Oregon
at the Washington County Fairgrounds Feb 1 & 2, 2013.

Will it be a Funky Junk Sister or a Funky Junk Brother?

Technology is so amazing...my daughter in law texted me this image yesterday. It's of my first grandbaby just 13 weeks along. I find it fascinating that she could share something like this so quickly with the family. She was barely out of the doctors appointment when my phone whistled at me to look at it.

Almost 2 years ago my oldest son got married. It was a wonderful beach wedding, I wrote about it here. Even then I wondered what their babies would look like. Will they have Jesse's gorgeous dimples? Sarah's beautiful eyes?
There is one thing I am sure of...that baby better love football and like the color purple!
I better get going, gotta locate the antique baby crib/bassinet that this little one will sleep in for the first few nights of it's life. It's the same crib that all the babies on my hubby's side of the family have slept in...yep everyone of them.
125 years of babies, now that's vintage!

Our next Junk Salvation Vintage Market is in Hillsboro, Oregon on Feb 1 & 2, 2013 at the Washington County Fairgrounds. We will have 80+ vendors showin off their most FAB junk finds...
have you made your plans yet?

We Can't Wait To Try This

FJS is designing a yoga studio this month. We were browsing the web to find some creative lighting and stumbled across this paper lantern project.
We found it on Design Sponge.

It looks pretty easy to create and we will be able to make it as large as we want. Should be just the touch we need to create the perfect zen.

 Beautiful!!

Yesterday hubby and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Even back then we were recycling...my wedding dress was a gunne sax dress I wore in a pageant and for a prom. Mom (FJS #1) and I altered it after we found out that there wasn't enough money in my parent's wedding budget to pay for a wedding dress. Imagine that?! I was devastated when mom broke the news to me, but somehow she found a way to make the best of the situation and the dress turned out beautiful.
That little blondie there on the right is Dixie.
She's wearing a gunne sax dress too. That was a long time ago,
heck, those dresses are now considered vintage
 and are collected by many.
Many thanks to my loving hubby for putting up with this "junker" for so long.

Grab these when you see them!

We come across old sewing patterns all the time. There are so many
creative ways to use them.
They are perfect to use for pom poms or tissue paper flowers.
They make an interesting way to wrap a package.
Here's another way to wrap a plant you are gifting.
Our favorite reuse for sewing patterns is this chandelier by umbu.
 It's FABULOUS!!!
Hey! We've got a  vintage market coming up in
Puyallup, Washington
on November 9th and 10th!
Early bird shopping starts at 6pm on Friday watch this blog
and our facebook page for updates

A Lovely Day

It's beautiful outside today. It's the perfect day to sit by the water and read a good book. Not just any old book...a book about the antique business. Maureen Stanton sent us a copy of her new book, Killer Stuff and Tons Of Money. She wants us to check it out and let our readers know about it. Well that's just what we are gonna do on this lovely day...read about the ins and outs of being in the antique business. We'll see how it compares to our experiences in this fascinating world of "as we call it" JUNK!

Random Likes Today

We sell a lot of old dressers at our vintage markets. Many homeowners repurpose them as vanities for their bathrooms but here one is used for a kitchen sink.
This chippy table gives this dining area just the right amount of character.
Below is an old buffet...minus the legs...brilliant!
This sweet burlap shade is just the right touch to complete this farmhouse kitchen.
Loved the idea of using an old mailbox as an extra toilet paper holder...another great idea from The Bachman Idea House.

You certainly can find all these pieces and more at our Junk Salvation Vintage Markets...but you'll have to be an early bird shopper to get the best stuff! We will let you in on a little secret....

text "JUNKIN" to 69302 and we will tell you how to get an early bird ticket for our
Coeur d' Alene, Idaho show at junktastic savings!!! Our CDA show is in just 9 days, (August 4th) so save your selves some dough junksisters and get on board the texting train! Got Me A Little Junkin Time In

Last night all the men in the house headed off to do other things so I decided to take some time to go thrifting. To me it seemed odd to head out after 7pm to junk, but I was determined to do it...at the same time realizing I probably wouldn't find anything. Remember the old saying, the early bird gets the worm?

Well let me tell ya... I found tons of cool stuff! I scored a retro 50's metal cart (in excellent shape) and a bunch of old silver. Plus I ran into 3 junkin friends while I was shopping. Now I'm tryin to figure out of I really stumbled onto something or not. Is the big secret to JUNK in the evening after all the donations get put out? Hummmm...maybe all my friends already knew that!

Hay bale love.

Back when we were younger.... growing up on a farm, we cleaned out a lot
of hay barns.
Back then the mention of hay bales meant itchy hot chores!
Not anymore!  Who ever would have thought you could make a hay bale look elegant?

We have a party coming up in a few weeks and we will need plenty of seating for guests.
Hay bales just might do the trick.

Our stash of vintage linens will provide a splash of color and a bit of comfort for our bale seating. We'll string some lights, add some mason jars and get this party started!

Our next show is in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho
on August 4, 2012.
It's at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
We'll find plenty of hay bales there. Drop by and see what we do with them!

Oh almost forgot to tell ya'll, we were named one of the
top 25 flea markets in America by
Romantic Homes Magazine!
Pick up the August 2012 issue today to check out
all the best fleas in the nation!
