Your Mission, Should You So Choose To Accept It...

We picked up a plain ugly evergreen wreath at Walmart the other day, you know the kind that is all flattened out and looks way too tacky to even purchase. Couldn't resist the price, it was only $2. Being the creative (and cheap) Junk Sistas that we are, we took the poor thing home and breathed some new life into it. First we fluffed it up, then we wove some white garland through the branches, not alot just enough to give it a snow kissed look. We had some old silk poinsettia flowers laying at the bottom of the Christmas box, we spray painted them white and tucked them into the wreath. Next, we clustered three silver Christmas balls on a single wire (they were left over from decorating the tree) and placed them near the flowers. Finally we added three glittery snowflakes to top it off. Walllahhh!
A wintry white wreath now welcomes guests through our door. All for just $2!!!!
Our challenge to you is to get a plain ol' green wreath and do something "Junktastic" to it and if you get a chance, send us a picture of it.
You can post them on our
Facebook Fan Page
We love to see your ideas!

Holiday Magic

This picture was taken just outside Dixie's window as we gathered our Funky Junk Families to enjoy a Thanksgiving Feast together. FJS#4 brother in law made the most FAB BBQd turkey (my hubby claimed it was the best he ever had), FJS#1 made the best jalapeno deviled egg poppers, and Dixie tried Martha's pumpkin cheesecake recipe (my fave). All were gobbled up quickly. We invited new members (fiance's) to our clan and possibly scared her away forever, just kiddin! She'll just have to learn to hold her own in this crazy wonderful crowd!!! Yes we all drove through a snow storm to get there, but that made the meal even more worth it.
We all make our own holiday magic through the way we celebrate and the traditions that we continue. Trimming the tree, glorious food and music fill us with joy. When all is said and done, it's the family time spent together that creates the holiday magic.
That is what we have been doing this past week...experiencing our families and celebrating the season! Hope you all had a magical time with your families too.
Remember December 1st we start our 12 Days of Giveaways, ya'll won't want to miss it! It will be your chance to win wonderful prizes,

Wall Project

We have talked about plate collages before and how plates are one of the top 10 flea market finds, now we just wanted to take it a step further to show you that you don't have to hang them perfectly. For example, they can be layered like the picture bel0w. What a fun eclectic dining room with the rustic wood floors and the fancy chandelier. We also love the letters sitting on the buffet, it's the perfect touch of whimsy. Here the plates cover the whole wall.

Or....you can use them to frame just one side of a picture.

The plates below are many different sizes and colors,
this collage adds character to this simple vintage kitchen.

Now here's an awesome idea with more of a contemporary look. Vinyl letters spell out a fun saying above a modern table. FABULOUS!!!

Think Outside The Box....urr...Pallet.

What a lovely room. Makes you wanna sit right down and curl up with a book doesn't it? This bed is made with shipping pallets. The contrast of the cozy quilted fabrics
against the raw wood is genius, but the old door for a headboard really seals the deal. The ceiling is softened by the fufu of paper lanterns and pom poms. PERFECT. Thanks to this site for the inspiration.

Another chalk project.

Saw something like this at a local discount store awhile back...
so Dixie decided to make some of her own. Below is another way to accomplish the same thing.

But this is similar to the way Dixie did it...she picked up some old wine glasses at the thrift store and painted the chalkboard paint on the stems and the bottoms.
They turned out cute and they are functional too.
Hint: Make sure you hand wash them.
Take note: these would be great gifts for the holidays.

Here's the perfect way to show them off. Don't cha think?

Shut the door...were you raised in a barn?

Maybe you weren't, but these are a far cry from what our mother's were talking about!

This isn't a door, but it is a window installed on a sliding track. Another variation to think about since barn doors aren't all that easy to find. We grab them whenever we can, they go fast.

Here is another idea, perhaps it's more your style.

Below are six recycled doors hung together (painted the same color) to hide what's under the canopy...we can just imagine using this technique as a wall divider inside. Now us junksistas just gotta find a handy man that can figure out the slider mechanism for us...We're on the hunt for doors and a MAN!!!
