Vintage Refridgerators

Remember the post we did on the vintage fridge we found? After a little research we think we have it pegged for a 1949 Philco. As we researched we were also looking for inspiration on what to do with it. Here are a few pics we would like to share. Robins Egg Blue

Cotton Candy Pink

Sweet, simple two tone versions.

This is a little wild, but very creative.

Two Tone Pink (one of our favs).

Polka dots are so popular. Very retro!

This one is for the MAN CAVE!

Should we leave it white?

This could possibly be the winner!

Every kitchen needs a little whimsey... we think a vintage fridge will give it that perfect touch.

Don't you agree?

Racheal does!!

All Funky Junk Sisters voted that this is the best idea of all!

Ideas for old doors

I found some old doors the other day and I needed some ideas for them.... look what I found. Who knew an old door could look so elegant. Add a little fancy paper in the insets and top it with glass. Taaaa Daaaa! It is gorgeous.
Here is another idea. The desk top as well as the back board are doors. Cute, cute, cute.

More ideas....

Now go out there and find those doors!!!

Good Luck.

Boise was a much needed mini vacation!

It was an absolutely glorious day for our trip to Boise, Idaho! The sun was shining and everyone was enjoying it. Including this family on these funny cycles.

The streets were full of people enjoying their lunches in sidewalk cafes. All the restaurants looked so inviting with umbrellas welcoming you to grab a bite to eat.

There were plenty of shops to discover too, like this one, Renditions, a lovely place full of tons of inspiration for junkers. We liked the motto on their window, LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE.
We came across this interesting shop, everything in it was pink including the carpet!

We chuckled when we saw what was inside...

Top 10 flea-market finds to decorate with

1. Any retro kitchenware from the 50's is making a huge comeback.2. Enamelware from the 40's has become the new cool casual classic. They make great dishes for entertaining outdoors. They can easily be revamped to hide defects with color enamel paints and a sponge.
3. Glassware is omnipresent with several sought-after styles like: Vaseline glass, Fire-King Jade-ite glass, milk glass, depression glass, hand blown glass and even Jeanette glass from the 70's in iridescent colors are all hot items.

4. Anything wicker or rattan is back in style and is quite simple to revamp with a fresh coat of spray paint.
5. Trays and tin cans with vintage images and advertisements make great kitchen decor accents and collections.

6. Trunks and suitcases make original end tables and are wonderful for providing extra storage. Adding wheels on a large trunk creates a hip coffee table. Some look great in their natural state, with a good cleaning and an oil finish, others can be revived using wallpaper and fabrics to cover them, or by adding vintage decoupage.

7. Globes make sensational decor accents in a den, office or a child's bedroom.
8. Maps are great to use in decoupage projects for small table tops, lampshades, trays, walls or simply to frame.
9. Medicine bottles, especially in blue or green glass, are quite sought after to display as a collection, or as a single bottle with one flower added.

10.Tools and hardware are valued for their history, purpose, collection appeal and to display on walls especially at cottages. Findings like glass knobs, handles, and vintage hooks are best used to add to other flea-market finds.

Funky Junk Sisters #1 and #4 Are Coming To Visit!

Funky Junk Sister #1 (MOM)

Well , Mom and Patty just couldn't stand it anymore, they are coming to visit! They have been reading about all of the hype for our upcoming show and just couldn't wait to come check it out for themselves. They will be sifting through our garages to access our finds, give us ideas and try to con us out of the good things (Beware Dixie!).

Funky Junk Sister #4 (PATTY)

We will be on the hunt hard for the next few days. Mother will be in heaven, she will run all of us ragged till the sun goes down. I guarantee you we will hit every yard sale in Pierce County this weekend. Mom is so excited that I think she forgot Sunday is Easter... oh boy that means no yard sales on Sunday. Thank Goodness, she'll be forced to rest!

Adventures From Last Weekend Part 2

Sandy's Geranium Cottage had a SALE on Saturday and we weren't gonna miss it! We loaded up the family, hooked up our trailers and headed out.

This rustic old cottage was once on a lake and was used as a vacation rental. Sandy and her hubby heard it was available to purchase so they snatched it up and moved it to their property in the Puyallup Valley. Now it is The Geranium Cottage where Sandy holds sales once a month.
We took our time searching through all of her treasures from the past. There was so much to look at.... With all of this cool junk, you can see how we wound up with 2 trailers full!

Don't worry ladies you won't miss out. Sandy will be a vendor at our show. She will bring all of her goodies with her. Remember to mark your calendars for June 13 & 14, 2009.

A Pleasant Surprise!

This past Saturday was full of surprises. Dixie and I went out gathering and hunting. We answered a craigslist ad for old barn doors and this is what we found! Heather and Steve's house and it was full of all sorts of charming ideas. We just had to share them with you. They created this display above their front door for all to see when they enter. Can you tell the shelves are old ladders? Below is another shot with more of the door showing so you can get a feel for the height they have in their foyer.
This the living room. Darling, isn't it? The barn door hung on the wall is similar to the 3 we bought from them. Great idea. Notice the coffee table, it's an old door with legs, they kept the door knob on!

Heather makes these cute little primitive dolls. This one is sitting in a dry sink in her family room. She is so sweet. I think I'll call her Sally.

Steve is quite the idea guy. You can tell he loves old things. His eyes light up when he tells the stories about all of his finds. This is clever, he used old windows to hide the television set.

See I told you!
Thanks to Heather and Steve for being such good sports about allowing us to take pictures and post them for all of you.

We've got more to tell you about our adventures this past weekend....(we wound up with 2 trailers full) so check back.
Til next time!
Linda
